Research On Si Ma-qian's Narrative Aesthetics

Si Ma-qian mixed the cream of narration and character-depicting artistry together. Making improvements on the new foundation, he founded history presented in a series of biographies which takes character as center, and thus accomplished the unity of narration and character-depicting. While being subservient to the veritable records of the traditional historiographer culture- "transmitting conviction if having faith in it or doubts if taking a skeptical attitude" , Si Ma-qian poured out his breadth of mind of managing state affairs and solemn and stirring emotion, thus developing a distinctive narrative spirit and visual angle. Meanwhile, his cognition over narrative structure takes root from solid humanism.Academic circles often affirm Si Ma-qian' s achievements from the angle of "veritable records" , while the deep seated narrative aesthetics spirit and concept at the back of "veritable records" have much room for further exploration and research.
