The　object　of　study　about　this　thesis　is　characters　of　the　LuYaoˊs　novel　with　regard　to　village.Author　classify　these　characters　and　put　them　in　a　big　frame　concering　the　reform　of　economy　and　the　transforms　of　society.In　this　frame,　author　approach　the　value　and　meaning　of　characters　as　well　as　the　mental　world　of　writer　through　the　nature　analysis　of　characters.　The　first　characters　of　author　are　Gao　jialin﹑Sun　shaoping　and　Sun　shaoˊan.They　were　representatives　about　individual　strivers.More　criticsˊstudy　of　individual　strivers　was　on　Gao　jinlin.A　few　think　obviously　that　the　Sunˊs　brothers　were　individual　strivers.In　fact,the　brothers　struggle　was　much　evident　and　successful　than　Gaoˊs.Particularly,Sun　shaoˊan　obtained　the　huge　achievement,but　he　did　not　forget　his　fellow　countrymen,and　became　a　leader　of　the　farmers　making　their　fortunes　in　the　new　period.They　were　that　one　step　leaves　slowly　their　footmark　at　the　bottom　of　society.　Because　of　their　class　origin,they　were　more　difficult　in　struggle.They　must　put　their　mentality　to　proper　position　before　developing.　Therefore,in　the　course　of　struggle,they　were　stubborn,and　struggle　to　the　end　did　not　say　〝failure〞forever.However,　they　were　mild　in　nature　.The　writer　was　also　soft　and　weak　while　he　was　writing,and　took　volubly.　Writer　is　much　alike　with　characters　in　class　origin　and　way　of　life.Sun　shaoping　had　the　trace　of　write.Through　characterization,writer　expressed　that　they　had　not　a　favorable　wind　in　way　of　life　because　of　the　particular　history　and　social　reasons.It　was　filled　with　the　pain　and　sufferings　and　beset　with　numerous　contradictions.It　expresses　that　our　reforms　and　achieving　the　four　modernization　are　difficult　through　their　era　and　the　surroundings　of　society.The　writer　used　the　realism　style　of　writing　when　he　described　the　great　transform　and　the　struggle　of　knowledge　youth　in　this　era.Writer　welcame　this　change　warmly.Because　of　the　limit　of　class　origin,　writer　　had　the　qualities　of　traditional　scholar:yearning　for　tradition　excessively.Of　course,　it　is　praiseworthy　for　that　traditional　fine　part.But　writer　did　not　put　forward　own　judgment　in　falling　behind　part.　The　old　was　in　the　country,they　experienced　rough　and　rugged　paths　of　life.As　a　result,they　shone　with　wisdom　in　principle　of　getting　along　with　people　and　conducting,for　example,Deshun　grandpa.But　more　were　honest　and　obligatory,　for　example,Sun　yuhou.In　their　life,the　old　men　swallowed　humiliation　and　bore　a　heavy　load,　took　on　tradition,brought　up　children　and　looked　after　their　parents.They　undertook　the　swing　of　the　pendulum　of　nation,and　they　were　really　the　support　and　back　of　nation.Of　course,those　national　fatuities　were　filled　with　them.But　they　were　still　progressive　men.They　paid　attention　to　the　change　and　development　of　society　in　silent　cultivation,and　gave　the　next　generation　with　the　enterprising　support　of　spirit　in　expansive　enterprise,and　provided　the　accomplishment　ground　of　the　mind　and　body　for　them.About　the　old　of　country,the　writer　was　addicted　to　the　agrestic　earth,and　fell　in　love　with　his　old　person　of　hometown.Althought　it　came　in　sight　of　one　side　that　they　fell　behind　,the　writer　just　pointed　out　the　weakness　of　their　body　softheartedly　and　lauded　much　of　their　excellent　nature.　It　expressed　an　antinomy　of　writer　that　writer　looked　for　the　modernization　and　accepted　the　modern　civilization　in　sense,but　yearned　for　the　tradition　and　country　in　　　feeling.　　　It　produced　the　abnormal　person　in　the　abnormal　society　and　politics.The　country　cadres　wre　these　"politics"　in　the　period　of　collectivization　of　agriculture,for　example　Tian　futang,Gao　minglou,Sun　yuting,Zhang　zhigao.They　accustomed　the　life　and　production　of　the　sport　type,and　their　honor　and　position　were　higher　than　the　general　village　farmersˋ.In　their　eyes,not　only　can　they　gained　the　real　benefit,but　also　a　kind　of　spirit　with　enjoyment.They　had　the　authority　in　village　people　eyes　and　the　violence　in　action.Because　their　old　consiousness　could　not　keep　up　with　the　footstep　of　the　social　development,they　destined　to　be　eliminated　by　the　history　and　became　the　terminators　of　an　age.But　compared　with　the　country　cadres　in　the　period　of　the　deepening　reform,they　were　still　praiseworthy.Their　successors　could　study　and　draw　lessons　from　them.Luyao　did　not　think　of　the　social　present　conditions　of　his　village　behind　he　died,his　characters　set　occasionally　the　corrupt　country　cadres　off　in　these　days.The　position　of　the　country　cadres　was　special　in　that　period,it　was　difficult　that　they　run　for　the　new　modern　ear.They　would　not　like　to　give　up　themselves　privilege　and　honors,and　could　not　impede　the　advancing　footstep　of　the　history,their　pain　and　sufferings　even　could　show　pain　and　sufferings　of　the　social　tyansformation　obviously.The　age　is　in　such　pain　and　sufferings　to　move　forward　and　spiral　buoyant　in　such　difficulties.　　The　antinomy　of　writer　about　emotion　with　ration　and　the　tradition　with　modern　showed　unintentionally　always.About　the　female　characters,the　conservative　female　standpoint　was　outside　of　this　kind　of　antinomy.Luyao　was　essentially　the　serious　male　chauvinist:it　emphasized　that　women　showed　consideration　for　men　and　sacrifice　for　them.　Eaaentially,　this　was　a　kind　of　feudalism　consciousness　for　falling　behind.For　the　sake　of　the　concern　of　the　writer　to　reform　and　looking　forward　to　modernization,the　writer　portrayed　many　modern　women,for　example,Tian　xiaoxia,Du　lili,Huang　yaping,etc.Tian　xiaoxia　was　a　successful　character　as　the　sign　of　modernization,but　she　could　still　not　escaped　the　destiny　of　setting　man　off:she　was　a　witness　of　Sun　shaoping　.But　Huang　and　Du　were　criticized　by　writer　because　they　possessed　their　own　personality　and　the　open　idea.　Although　　it　had　reason　that　writer　was　not　familiar　with　these　person,and　because　the　male　power　of　the　writer　was　too　at　playing　tricks,they　were　weak　and　rigid.　The　writer　applauded　and　affirmed　Liu　qiaozhen,Sun　lanhua　very　much.Because　they　were　traditional　women,and　gentleness
