The literature research of the late Qing Dynasty and early ROC has been regards as the relative weakness in the area of Modern literature. As to the journal the Saturday, one of the representatives of Yuanhu literature, few people have heard of that. With objective of love novels, the most representative literature in the Saturday, this paper aims to do some research about the options between western and eastern ways made by the writers of the Saturday. Staring from the tragic consciousness, this paper attempts to provide you with impersonal recommendation about the Saturday. In this paper, those articles that were usually assessed negatively will be reevaluated equally. Besides introduction and conclusion, the main body consists of four parts as follows: The first part describes the reasons that tragic love novels remained the dominated position in the Saturday. With the social and cultural background when tragic love novels prevailed, the reason exists two areas. One is the miserable love experience of the Saturday authors influence strongly the tragic direction of their novels, another one, the feature of the Saturday results in the specific style of the journal. The second part emphasizes tragic configuration presented by the Saturday, a combination with eastern and western style. Based on the comparison between quantitative interpreted novels and some similar domestic ones, it is concluded that tragic consciousness of those love novels released on the Saturday were affected seriously by western literature and traditional literature simultaneously. Nevertheless, the combined east and west style reveals that only the western story structure and tragic style influenced the authors of the Saturday, they didn't grasp the real critical and human spirits. While the Saturday brought up the new feature for domestic literature at that time, for instance, the moral issues and modern ideal. This leads to the success of the Saturday, which indicates the new tragic consciousness between the traditional and modern times. Owing to the misunderstanding about western literature made by the writers of late Qing Dynasty, for example, Lin Zhu, the third part focuses on the reasons of how the tragic consciousness was brought up between traditional and modern times. Those writers from the Saturday who had updated educational background respected to pursue the novel skills improvement. The way they analyze eliminates the understanding about western literature according to Chinese traditional literature criteria, but still remains the moral assessment criteria shifting western literature spirit to be localized in Chinese way. Assume that the writers of late Qing Dynasty, representative by Lin Zhu, established a bridge for a better understanding of western literature using the Chinese traditional moral standards, and guide us to the border of tradition and morality. The authors from the Saturday just moved on a little bit further before they achieve their goals. This hesitating thought can be found in their works easily. The last part points out the overstate skills of super-narrative used in the the Saturday and the steady realism complex. Rather than the consideration of novel skills in the beginning of the period, the trueness became the objective primary ignoring the other novel skills. This leads to the failure of the Saturday, turning into plain statement from tragic works. With the decline of Yuanhu Literature, the Saturday backs into the silence gradually. Objectively, it still provides a great deal of outstanding works; especially love stories with modern tragic consciousness. Compared with the writers of May-4th , the Saturday didn't reach that high level in the literature value. While, it provides the classic May-4th literature works with necessary experience and implications from weakness. It is recommended this specific period cannot be ignored during the traditional and modern times.
