| In the English language a lot of individual researches on stylistics or lexicology have been fruitfully conducted. Among those prominent pioneers, H. G. Widdowson, the outstanding applied linguist and the International English Professor of Educational Institute, London University, is included. In his book Practical Stylistics, based on his understanding of the nature of poetry as the creative form of language, Widdowson made a thorough study on style in the view of poetic teaching. In domestic lexical research, many renowned professors like Lin Ghenzhang, Wang Rongpei, etc have already done much work. However, a combined, systematic and complete research on English lexicology and stylistics is quite rare. Lexemes are the foundation of the language construction and at the same time they serve as the presupposition for the generation of style. For a clear understanding of style, a detailed analysis of lexemes is urgently demanded. Hence, a paper entitled with Stylistic Examination of English at the Lexical Level came into being. In this paper, we discuss the relevant issues of English lexemes and styles from the following 6 chapter:Chapter 1: Introducing some basic concepts concerning with style, and then attempting to analyze the relationships between style and language and language user;Chapter 2: Focusing on the varied stylistic meanings of English lexemes, and pointing out that the different choice of lexemes will lead to different styles;Chapter 3: Categorizing English lexemes into three groups, common words, formal words and non-basic words on the level of their stylistic meanings and then dwelling on their stylistic features with examples;Chapter 4: Discussing the crafty employment of English lexemes, i.e. the use of rhetoric's influence on English styles;Chapter 5: Studying on a new trend in English style-cyber style and its features and the impacts on the mainstream language and style;Chapter 6: Concluding that both style and lexemes are indispensable organisms in language and the combined study of style and lexemes will exert a positiveeffect on language acquisition for the learners. In one word, this paper is a tentative research on English lexemes and style and is hopefully to guide the second language learners of English to study and use English lexemes correctly and appropriately and in the meantime, to consider the ways and skills of using different lexemes to transfer different styles in language communications. At length, it aims at finding a best supporting point and a new solution for a deeper and more efficient learning and mastering of English as an art of language. |
