The Influence Of Field Cognition Mode On Mental Rotation

Abstract: Field cognition mode is an important variance of individual difference. And it is one of important dimensions of personality structure too. According information process, it can be divided into two kinds .One is field -dependence and the other is field-independence . Field-dependence mainly refers to depending on the outside frames of reference or guiding by environments .Compare with it ,people who are field-independence depend on the inside stored information. Mental rotation is a process which is similar with objective substance rotation .and it is one important part of theory of mental image too. This study emphasizes that people who have their own some particular character personality character and cognitive process both has a affinity and the former produce influence on the latter .In this opinion, Making mental rotation subject and its objections together .Doing a series of experiments .then analyzing the results of experiments .thus it can conclude the influence of field cognitive style on mental rotation .Moreover revealing the personality effects during cognitive process. The meaning of this study is to offer a reference research information for the person who has different field cognition mode .So that they can choose the proper field to get more achievements.Our experimental research is composed of two parts .The first part is choosing the subjects Through embedded -figure -test way , 82 subjects was chose from 321 undergraduates. Including 42 field-dependence and 42 field-independence. The second part includes four experiments. Every one uses different experimental material ,that are character, Chinese character, figure and letter research the influence of field cognition mode on mental rotation .But the experiments have the same experimental design called three mixed experimental design including two factors repeated. That is ,2 (field-dependence/ independence)x2(types of task) X6( angles of rotation ).Thefirst factor and the latter two factors is called the between -subjectsdesign ,but the second factor and the third one is called the within -subjectsdesign.The results of data analysis support the following conclusions:1. The present experiments support that the reaction time of fourexperimental subjects is linear relation with the gap of two angles and it isgrowing with the growing rotational angle .at 180°,which got the maximum andtwo sides of curves bounding 180° is symmetric.2 . The accuracy has the same trend with the reaction time. With thegrowing rotational angle it become lower, at 180°it get the minimum and twosides of curves bounding 180° is symmetric.3. The subjects of filed dependence have faster reaction time and fewer errors than who of field-independence. However the curves of reaction time and the curves of accuracy of different field cognition mode has their own accordant changing trends.4. Mental rotation is a analog process and it is similar with rotation of objective substance including a series of phases .Further more ,during the mental rotation accompanying some strategies, the changing point at 180°. The process is filled with intelligence .
