Zhu Guangqian is a prominent critic in the history of Chinese modern literature. Systemic studying on Zhu's literature criticism can benefit not only the knowledge of his contribution in Literature and Art, but also the cognation of the complexion of modern literature criticism.Zhu had the educational background of Chinese traditional and western academies, and kept a good relationship with the White Horse Lake Iiterators and the Peking Iiterators, which paid great contribution to his later literature criticism.In Zhu's criticism, the pure and just spice is regarded as the criterion, the aesthetic experience is treated as the foundation; through promoting enjoy and introjecting creation, they are intergrated and melted into his criticism, throughout which is a self-governed criticism spirit.Leading by this criticism, Zhu made principles by tallying sentiment with imago in the relationship of the interior literature and uniting personality with style in the relationship of the exterior of literature and constructed a series modes of criticism with these principles.In the 1930's, Zhu also held literature salons, edited literature periodicals, and took part in controversies. All these activities were related to his criticism.Zhu's literature criticism is a totally rational aesthetic one which has three characters, including modern feature, traditional trend and exceeding views. Zhu's literature criticism not only became the theorist and defender of the Peking Iiterators and contributed to the incoming age of new literature, but also enlighten contemporary critic on taking responsibility for literature.
