The Contrast Analysis Of Word Lists In Newspaper Based On Dynamic Circulating Corpus

Word list is quite important for many domains such as linguistic theory, language teaching and information process of Chinese. Thus, the study of word list has become one of the important subjects of many scholars. This dissertation, from various angles, analyzes two word lists-circulation word list and usage wordlist which are abstracted from ten main newspapers of 2002 and comes to the conclusion that the circulation word list, under the influence of circulation and media, can reflect dynamic change of papers in content and word order. Hence, it is more scientific and practical.This dissertation mainly compares top 3000 words of the two lists. If we take the usage wordlist as the original one, we could find that circulation dramatically changes the usage word list. 65.63% of 3000 words on the usage list remain within the top 3000 words on circulation list. 34.37% drop out of the top 3000 on the circulation list. Meanwhile, 1031 new words enter the top 3000 of circulation list. Among these new words, there are many with obvious domain characteristics covering economy, politics, entertainment and so on. In terms of word class, there are a lot of nouns which can show obvious characteristics and less pronouns and adjectives. Among the words which drop out of the usage list, a lot of them are adjectives. Among the remained words, there are plenty of words mainly on three types: website, paper title and paper property. From the point of word class, pronouns and functional words are more. During analyzing the word lists, we find that "Media Index", like circulation and circulation place, play a quite significant role in the process of changing the order of word lists, which can reflect an important idea of circulation: media circulation directly affects text circulation and the real circulation of text can influence public intuition. In addition to the analysis of word lists, we also study the "phrase" and get the conclusion: the "phrase" of circulation word list gives same attention to statisticsand intuition and thus is more practical. In order to test our conclusion, we did a small investigation and the result totally corresponds with our conclusion, which is also a good proof of the circulation theory. The data of this dissertation is taken from Dynamic Circulating Corpus of Beijing Language and Culture University. I hope this dissertation can prove that circulation theory is scientific and pragmatic and wish our conclusion can provide some reference for Chinese teaching for foreigners.
