Between the two great dynasties Han and Tang are the Sixteen Kingdoms and Northern Dynasties Period, an important period of transition in the development of arts and crafts history.In this period, Chinese culture and art develop in new directions through the growth and interaction of regional tradition and foreign influence. This is still a time of migrating of minority nationality. The promoted financial and culture communication bring the development of arts and crafts.In textile craft, the jin silk were the superior compare to others. Chinese wavers learn new technologies and new patterns form western world, especially the Pearl-bordered Medallion. Felt was another important kind of fabric in this time.The development of ceramic is very rapid. Though they learn technologies from Southern Dynasties, there were many innovations in shape and decoration.Merchants along the Silk Road brought western gold and silver to China. They were quite different from Chinese works and made great influence later in Tang Dynasty.Compare to above, bronze ware, lacquerwork and glass were not outstanding, but still make some progress.Significant breakthroughs were made during this period of history in the arts and crafts. The construction and thoughts influenced in this time also shaped the direction of the development in arts and crafts to the following dynasty. In one word, this period was in the transition between two peaks of Han Dynasty and Tang Dynasty on the Chinese arts and crafts history.
