Wang Anyi is a Conscientious Contemporary woman writer, who has persevered with her distinctive humanistic writings and analyses in her over twenty years' literary career. Three literary phases are shown in her works in which her humanistic cognition is deepening. This is a reflection of Wang's deeper thorough grasp of humanity. At the early stage of her writing, Wang Anyi had a preliminary perceptual knowledge of humanity which embodied her perceptual experience at the shallow level. As she had a deeper grasp of humanity in her literary creation after the mid-1980s, she observed the complexity and richness of humanity, and her humanistic writings and analyses penetrated slowly with her works. Since the 1990s, Wang Anyi has focused her attention on her humanistic exploration into the people as an individual or as a collective. Therefore her works, with her deeper and multilevel inquiry, become mature in their connotation and manifestation. And she has completed her grasp of true humanity. Many writers take humanity as their themes and their works touch the cognitive depth of true humanity, but Wang Anyi differs from other writers in her distinctive writings and analyses. With her real cognition of humanity, she regards individual life as her analytical object, sees natural life from an analytical angle, and uses routine relief as her analytical pattern.Wang Anyi's distinctive writings and analyses are based her persistent stance on the masses. As we know, history and society consist of individual and everyday life which has undeniable universality and which pushes forward the discovery ofman himself and humanity. And her stance originates from her conscious estrangement from great historical narrative, so that she forms her distinctive fictional conception and practises her fictional creation on the basis of her purposeful sober-mindedness. Her careful observation of mankind and social life enables her to attach great importance to the individual pursuit and discovery of ego, to seek for her own material and spiritual worlds and to criticize man's lost spiritual homeland as well as the relationship between man and nature in a market economy. And her true, direct and people-centred writings concerning humanity aim to make man know and consummate himself. Such writings and analyses are based on the widest range of the individual mind and provide enlightenment in a real sense. |
