| Anxiety refers to complicated emotional reaction interweaved by the sense of nervousness, fussiness, fearfulness, frightfulness and so on. In recent years, the investigations about university students' psychological healthy and practice of mental counseling show that anxiety has become one of main psychological problems existing in university students in our country, and that the individual self-concept plays an important role in engendering anxiety. Generally speaking, most university students' anxiety is in a general extent and only the minor is extremely serious. University students' self-concept means the sensation to their personalities of university students' individuals and the methods in each of their own aspects of individual experiences and understanding, which is possibly correct, positive or possibly partial, passive. Usually the university students' self-concepts are not correspondent to the fact, and the differences between should self (it means the characteristics being necessarily possessed and obligation being undertaken for individuals) and factual self (it means the characteristics that the individuals regard them to actually possess) exist(Li honghan,2001). Seeing that the severity of university students' anxiety and the deficiency and limitation of the existed research, this research conducts from the discrepancy between should self and factual self of university students, and probes into the relationships between it and anxiety.Adopting The Self-Concept Questionnaire About Factual Self and Should self to University Students which made up by ourselves and The State-Trait Inventory(Speilberger,1980), this research carries on group measurement for 567 college students. At the same time, we also employ the method of case study on interviewing three students with different anxious levels, so as to prove the result of group measurement. The result of this study shows: 1. To some degree, the subject had state anxiety(M=2.99,SD=0.91) and trait anxiety(M=3.28,SD=0.86). In state anxiety, the differences in grade, family economic situation and taking on cadre were significant, while in trait anxiety the differences in sex, grade, family economic situation and taking on cadre or not were also very significantly. 2. The Self- Concept Questionnaire About Factual Self and Should self to University Students could be employed to evaluate the concepts of should self and factual self. Five dimensions were identified through factor analysis: efficiency self-discrepancy, planning self-discrepancy, coping self-discrepancy, handling affairs self-discrepancy, and confirming self-discrepancy.3. The subject possessed positively factual self-concept. To a certain degree there were some discrepancies between should self and factual self(M=1.84 ,SD=0.69), among which coping self-discrepancy, confirming self-discrepancy and planning self-discrepancy were higher, but efficiency self-discrepancy and handling affairs self-discrepancy were less. And significant differences in sex, grade and the condition talking on cadre or not existed in the discrepancy between should self and factual self.4.There was a significant positive-correlation between the factual-should self- discrepancy and anxiety. Coping self-discrepancy, planning self- discrepancy, handling affairs self-discrepancy, and confirming self–discrepancy attached obvious prediction to the anxiety. So did the state anxiety and trait anxiety to the total points of self- discrepancy in which the prediction of trait anxiety was higher than that of state anxiety.5.Subjects who had high or laigh factual-should self- discrepancy showed significant difference at state and trait anxiety, and subjects who had high or laigh state and trait anxiety also showed significant difference at factual self, should self, and the discrepancy between the factual self and should self .6. With the case study on three students whose anxiety were in different levels, it proved the result of group test.According to the result of this research, this essay supplies so... |
