Hushi, the leading personage of the Chinese ideological culture field at the modern times and contemporary ages, is always evaluated as "good reputation all over the world but also accompanying with great criticism ".The reason is that he was deeply impressed by the period in his life between the fierce conflict of the Chinese culture and western culture at the modern times and contemporary ages. The two absolutely different types of the value standard and behavior norm of the old and new, western and Chinese, coexists in the same body. This makes the thinking all his life full of contradiction, and it is obviously expressed in three aspects. The first is that he is well-known as advocating complete westernization and try his best to praise highly of the western culture, but his greatest learning achievement is in putting the national cultural in order. The second is that although he is the firmest supporter and initiator of the democratic politics, he can't shake off the obstacle of "the essence ideas" from beginning to end. The third is that being a scholar, he wish the science and politics could be divided, but he is interested in the practical politics with false interest. By means of investigating his thinking, find there are three reasons of causing the amounted contradictions. Those are the conflict of personal character consciousness, the unobtrusive influence of the social group, and the special back ground of his times.
