Wang Yucheng was one of the earliest poets who were banished in the Song Dynasty.Born in a poor family,he,after ten years of hard work,passed the imperial examination and secured an official position as a secretary of the emperor for his literary talentHe offended many bigwigs and brought much aversion of Taizong (the second emperor of Song Dynasty976-997) because of his upright disposition and his frank speech.As a result he was banished three times in his life,both physically and mentally injured.Then,no more than fifty he died of an illness.Going through ups and downs in his political career,he got mixed feelings and profound understandings of life.Thus,he created a great number of excellent poems,in which his course of motive could be seen clearly.that is,the ideology of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism interplayed an came to a balance eventually. This course demonstrated the influence of three religions that were merging into on scholar-officials of Song Dynasty; meanwhile,it outlined the scholar-officials' life orbit on which they trudged through from persistence to transcendence.The political ups and downs had effect on Wang Yucheng' mentality and consequenty influenced his poetry creation that were different from his previous works.As far as his ideological content was concerned,he focused on political poems,poems of his heart and landscape poems,which were featured by simple style and deep feelings rather than courtesy perfunctoriness and sentimental pose.Addationally,due to his status changes,he broadened his observant vrsion and his artistic views became many folded,reflecting various aspects of life.Whats more,he laid more stress on different means of artistic expressions,such as literary quotation,figure of speech,etc.,to expand artistic space of his works,kelivering rich change of content and form was bound to bring about that of poem style,after he was banished,his added solemn and stirring and indignative monentum to previous easiness and vagueness,which accorded with his psychological changing from persistence to transcendence.
