The Study On "Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng"

Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng(元声韵学大成) is a rhyme book for having innovative spirit, which was written in the eighth year of the WanLi period of Ming dynasty. The author is Pu Yanglai in Guang De , An Hui province.lt only exists several cataloges in the Charpter Three of Qian Qin Tang Shu Mu(千顷堂书目) of Ming dynasty. Si Ku Quan Shu Zong Mu Ti Yao(四库全书总目提要) also, contains a brief evaluation , which is quite low and unfair.There is several scholars afterward, who mentioning this rhyme book all and once . However, their evaluations are no better than that of Si Ku Quan Shu Zong Mu Ti Yao(四库全书总目提要). They did not do through research to this book. In 1982,the Japanese scholar KEI YA TOSHI NOBU compared this book with Zhong Zhou Yin Yun(中州音韵),which is written by Wang WenBi .He discovered that Yuan Sheng YunXue Da Cheng(元声韵学大成) inherited some researching-achievements of Zhong Zhou Yin Yun(中州音韵) in the rhyme classes. He also discussed the reasons for setting apart the rhyme classes in the Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng(元声韵学大成).To be honest, he analysised this book deliberately. In 2002, Mr Lu Jiancai of ShangDong Normal University wrote master-thesis about this book. He discussed the features of WU dialect in Ming dynasdy. His conclusions expanded the perceptive scope of this book, and announced to the public the value of this book from a new perspective.On the foundation of earnestly absorbing the researching-achievement there has been, this thesis does delicate researches to the Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng(元声韵学大成) comprehensively. The thesis involves the following contents: (regarding the contents of the thesis as the preface) The introduction primarily discusses the background of the creation of this book.It sums up the historial facts of creating so many rhyme books in the fourty-eight years of WanLi period .Meanwhile.it points out the factual reason of this phenomenon.Chapter One tries to verify all the life of the author, the author's works , the process of composing the Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng(元声韵学大成) and the comtempory evaluation for this book. Meanwhile, it tries to verify several edition of this book by comparing the similarities and differences of theseeditions. It also studies the spreading of this book. At the same time, this chapter introduces the historical evaluations and researching-situations, which are analysised and criticized . later. It also puts forward to conceive to the research and proceeds theoutlook. In chapter one, it also analysises the the ending-style, the contents form and the composing characteristics of Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng .Finally it delicately checks the representative word of every initial class and the little-rhyme-word.Chapter Two researches to the initials of this book. In the thesis , by checking the homophones of the little-rhyme-word delicately, it discovers the unvoiced of the voiced sound.It also analysises the confusition and the separation of initials and discusses the reasones for these alterations. Chapter Three is the research to the rhyme classes. It also approaches to the situations and the reasons for separation, and it finds out the origins of the rhyme classes of this book in the medieval times. In fact, it. reveals the development of the rhyme classes diachronicly with the Yuan Sheng Yun Xue Da Cheng for center. Meanwhile, the thesis deduces the pronunciations of every rhyme of all the rhyme classes according to the researching conclusions. Chapter Four researches to the tone of this book.
