The Creation Of Tragical Image In Giuseppe Verdi's Opera LA TRAVIATA

"LA TRAVIATA" never fades in the stage of opera, and people enjoy it, transcending time and space. The reasons for this, the author maintains, are mainly due to the uniqueness of the subject and the dramatic construction of the contradiction, which are in tune with people's aesthetic sense, especially the successful creation of the tragical image. What makes a successful opera is, more often than not, the successful creation of operatic image. Just as Mr. Ju Qihong says in "Operatic aesthetics", " In my view, the operatic image can find home in the opera's content and construction." Thus, it is meaningful to explore the way of the operatic image creation, especially in the tragical image.This paper expounds how Giuseppe Verdi created the immortal tragical image Violetta with artistry of drama and music, by music morphological analysis and compound research approaches. Further more the paper comprehensively have an involvement with the music morphology, opera aesthetics, music analysis, dramatic aesthetics and social history.This paper is divided in 4 parts. It first puts emphasis on analysis of the reason why the musician Giuseppe Verdi decided to create the tragical image-Violetta; then it deals with the creation of the tragical image from the perspective of musical images.
