Zhang Ping, a famous writer of anti-corruption novel, has written many novels of this kind. His novels such as The Net of Heaven, Great Legal Effects on the Western Land of Fen River, Choice-making, Ambush on All Sides, etc. are very popular among the common people, which is the reason why he is recognized as "the People's Writer". Generally speaking, his writing is divided into three periods, namely, the embryonic stage, the explorative stage, and mature stage. In his writings corruption is characterized by a series of new features in the present historical period. That is, organized, youthful, complex and diachronic corruption is exposed to us, and even worse, it is involved into the judicature. Many characters with distinctive individuality are created in his novels to show various kinds of images. As a general, this series of characters can be classified into three groups: 1) the cadre image of genuine Party members, with such representative characters as Li Gaocheng, Liu Yurui; 2) the image of common people, represented by Li Rongcai; 3) the cadre image of qualitatively-changed Party members, with such representative figures as Guo Zhongyao, Jia Rengui. Zhang's novels have a quite distinctive style among other writers. The thematic expression, plot construction and characterization are well done by means of such artistic methods as sharply contrastive description, absorbing suspense, genuine psychological portrayal, and vivid specific scenes. However, his novels lack something to have access to the perfection standards. For example, in terms of speech, some figures are not the persons of strong character; some details are not strong enough to hold water; it also has the shortage of a true sense of democratic consciousness.
