The importance of culture teaching in foreign language education has beenrecognized by Chinese scholars and educators in early 1980s. And since then cultureteaching has always been a hot issue in foreign language education study field. Greatachievements have been made in theory concerning culture teaching and learning in thepast twenty years. However, in spite of the theoretical achievements, culture teachingpractice in Chinese college English course remains limited. This thesis consists of five parts. The author first presents a brief review of relevantliterature in the past years concerning culture teaching from both abroad and home; thena further discussion of the significance of culture teaching is given; next the authorpresents an analysis of her sociocultural test at a university in the hope of investigatingthe case of culture teaching practice; the following chapter attempts to explore thecauses for the depressing situation of culture teaching practice; and finally, thecorresponding strategies are suggested to improve and promote culture teaching andlearning practice in college foreign language education.
