Functions Of Hotel Introduction And Its English Translation Through Functionalist Approach

This paper advocates adopting the Skopostheorie theory-a functionalist approach in the translation of Chinese hotel introduction. Based on a thorough analysis of the functions that a hotel introduction needs to attain, the writer draws a comprehensive system of translation brief regarding the translation of hotel introduction. Then by comparing the English hotel introductions of western countries with the Chinese counterpart, the writer concludes a sequence of translation errors presented in current English translation of Chinese hotel introduction with their respective amendment suggestions. Finally, the writer concludes that the evaluation of the translation of Chinese hotel introduction should be shifted from the traditional principle of "fidelity" to whether the translation can still serve the function of customer attraction and persuasion in the English language settings.
