The naissance of photography in 19th century brings a huge shock and impact to human being .It is playing a very important role in the modern society although the photography was invented less than two centuries.To learn the history of photography, We can make a study from the aspect of society technology art and pictures and so on. In this dissertation, I want to proceed with from the angle of photographer Chin-San Long . I want to show a general threads of the photography history in beginning of 20th century in China through the study of the Chin-San Long's photographic career and conception. I also want to make a new objective appraise on Chin-San Long and his photography.It totally discussed from three chapter:In the first chapter, it mainly give a presentation of the Chin-San Long's life, including the background of society and the probing into the photography theory.In the second chapter, it mainly give a presentation of Chin-San Long's Composite Picture, which is focused on the definition origin of the Composite Picture and the way of making a Composite Picture. Knowing more about the Composite Picture will help us to understand Chin-San Long's photography conception better.Generally speaking , to make a Composite Picture, Chin-San Long facilitated a knowledge of Chinese painting and copied the style from the Chinese Painting model. Although some Composite pictures took by Chin-San Long with special Chinese characteristics is a dedication to the photography culture of the world ,it is, either from the aspect of photography matter or social history , a imitation follow the lead of Chinese painting. Chin-San Long's composite Picture influenced notonly Chinese photography conception but also the development of Chinese photography culture.I mainly introduced Chin-San Long's conception on photography in the third chapter. Chin-San Long's has a clear attitude towards to the connection between photography and Chinese painting, through the analysis of his attitude I will explain the Chin-San Long's conception on photography and we can understand the historical sense and realistic sense of the painting photography .Through the presentation of the third chapter ,we make clear that Chin-San Long's conception on photography is almost a facilitation of a knowledge of Chinese painting not a creative exploring of the photography. He has a great interest in the Chinese art and Chinese painting ,which make him less focus on the studying in a real investigation of photography. The principle of Chinese painting limited Chin-San Long's photography because he have to keep to the principle of Chinese painting, which maybe is the reason for why he is always but of the door of mainstream of world photography.
