This thesis gives an account of phonetic system of Zhongyang dialect, and compares the corresponding relationships between this dialectal sound and mid-ancient sound system. On the ground of this, it sums up the features of sound change of Zhongyang dialect, and makes a comparison with northwest sound of Tang, Wudai and Song Dynasties. In this comparison, the paper shows that Zhongyang dialectal phonetics keeps certain features of northwest phonetics. It is made up of five parts. Part one is about sound system of Zhongyang dialect, integrating the results of hands-on investigation into former research results, makes an all-round description about the initial and the final of a syllable and the tones of Zhongyang dialect Part two is a comparison between mid-ancient and Zhongyang dialectal sound. It performs a detailed investigation into information on each sound. Part three deals with features of the change of the initial of a syllable. It explains how it changes on the basis of northwest dialectal sound of Tang, Wudai and Song Dynasties. Part four describes the features of the change of the final of a syllable with the same method. It describes the change of special finals. Part five is the conclusion. This part sums up the whole thesis.
