The Study Of Mei Yaochen's Poetry

Mei Yaochen is the pioneer of Song Diao. His poetic standing should not be ignored. As a result, many scholars of past dynasties make a lot of studies of his poetry. This thesis will study mostly his insipidity of poetic style, his pioneering spirit on subject matter and his contribution to poetry theory. As for his vigor of poetic style, except Lu You, few scholars have made studies. So this paper tries to discuss the style of Mei's poetry starting from Lu You's viewpoint about his style, to see how the psychology of esteeming "ge" in those days on his style, and to display how his poetry embodies the vigor of poetic style. For the sake of intensive and thorough mastery, I select comparative and analytical means to compare Mei Yaochen's poetry with that of Su Shunqin. As for his insipidity style, researchers of later generations have already made a lot of studies, so I will only discuss the development of his insipidity of poetic style in the Song dynasty instead of unnecessary details. There are four chapters in this paper. In the first chapter, we will introduce Mei Yaochen's experience and editions of his works. In the second chapter, we will discuss Mei Yaochen's poetic theory. In the third chapter, we will discuss his insipidity of poetic style. In the last chapter, we will discuss his vigor of poetic style.
