A Study Of The Economy In Fan-tribe Between Song-Xia Borders

This thesis deals with the circumstance, the economic condition and the relations of the agrarian systems in Fan-tribe, the people who lived between Song-Xixia borders, It consists of four parts. First of all, the natural environment and social background are discussed. It is pointed out that the natural environment limited its economy to semi-farming and semi-nomadism, and that the social background about the policy, which Song adopted to organizing Fan-tribe to fight against Xixia, contributed a lot to the transition of its economy.In the second part, it is elaborated that, under the influence of Song's measures such as setting Fan-tribe' people in the land, letting its bowmen grow food grain, organizing its soldier and building its agrarian system ,the agriculture of Fan-tribe had been developed, especially its agriculture products and its three type of feudal tenancy relationships. However, the level of the feudal tenancy relationship was not achieved so high as that of the central plain.After introducing the condition and technology about the breed of animal husbandry, it is proved that Fan-tribe has been the major region in providing horses for Song since Liao and Xixia became strong.In the last part of this thesis, the handicraft industry, which was set by the semi-farming and semi-nomadism economy, was also expounded from the aspects of its fur industry as well as its smelting, mining industry and winery.
