Machine Translation

People in different countries or different nationals use various languages. In most cases, they have to communicate through translation. Globalization accelerates the expansion of translation market. With the rapid development of computer technology, people turn to computer to overcome the inconvenience out of different languages. MT research is the interdisciplinary study which covers linguistics, mathematics, and computer science. MT's realization will overcome the barrier of different languages to human's communication in the world. Thus, MT research serves the scientific and economic purposes. This paper introduces the MT's history, from the very first beginning to nowadays development, concerned technology, and various MT approaches and some commercial systems. The latest MT on Internet is also presented. In this paper, cooperation between the human translator and MT as well as some MT's advantages to illustrate that MT is not a threat to professional human translator but assistance.
