The activities of nationalities" migration in Xinjiang were, frequent from ancient times. There were 13 nationalities in Xinjiang in 1949. most of which migrated from the outer areas. My paper tries to clarify the reason, the tortuous course that Russian moved into Xinjiang, to expound their activities in Xinjiang, then to discuss the impact these activities had on Xinjiang. My paper includes three sections:The first section: Russian appeared in Xinjiang (1840-1880). Russian violated the ban of Qing dynasty and appeared in Xinjiang, following more and more violent invasion that the Russian Empire did in northwest China. In 1851. the Russian Empire compelled Qing government to sign the treaty, which brought some kinds of privileges to Russian, furnished some favorable conditions for their immigration. During this period, Russian who moved into Xinjiang, were engaged in business. But the number of Russian in Xinjiang was not large and the population were distributed mainly over the north of Xinjiang. The second section: population of Russian increased in Xinjiang (1881-1917). In 1881, the Russian Empire entered a treaty with Qing government. The treaty granted more and more privileges to Russian, which increased the population of the Russian Empire in Xinjiang, expanded their activities scope quickly, then formed the situation of dispersion and inhabitancy. The consulate and the the of place exerted very important influence on the Russian migrating into Xinjiang. The third section: Russian migrated Xinjiang extensively (1917-1944). The October Revolution broke out in the Russian Empire in 1917. As far as Russian were concerned, the historic event produced the profound results. On the one hand, Russian in Xinjiang lost the privileges. On the other hand, thousands upon thousands Russian immigrated into Xinjiang. All these led to the Russian of Xinjiang coming into being.
