A Study Of Fujian's Fyrd

The fyrd had been in Fujian modern history for nearly a half of the century, having played the important role in the history progress of Fujian during the reign of the Republic of China. This paper deals on the military expenditures, the internal organization, rise and fall, and the relation between the fyrd and Fujian political situation .It clarifies the standpoints as follows:( a) Fujian's fyrd resulted from the violence and turbulence in society, his development had the great influence on the progress in Fujian history;(b)his members included the bankrupt farmers and gansters, who were affected deeply by the blood relationships and gang organizations;(c) his military expenditures primarily was raised by himself. His leaders conflicted mutually and robbed the resources in order to increase their military expenditures, exposing the great destructiveness, defering the social development in Fujian and leading the heavy disasters to the people;(d) Fujian's fyrd attended the bourgeois revolution for many times. Although they were unconscious, they were in keeping with history currents, which were progressive to some degree; At the same time they often interfered in the political and military affairsWe must analysis the special community of Fujian's fyrd in the right way, not confusing them with the bandits.In the research of Fujian's fyrd, we can understand the social circumstance of the lowerclass in Fujian in the rule of Northern warlord and Guomindang government. It is useful for us to develop the study on the military history, social history, revolutional history and economic history in Fujian.
