Analysis Of Women's Characteristics Of Speech

This paper is designed to analyze women's characteristics of speech in a general sense, which focuses on stereotypes of women's speech, male-dominance and women's use of euphemistic strategies, and to analyze reasons for women's characteristics of speech from both anthropological point of view and socio-cultural point of view. On one hand, this analysis follows the conventional studies of women's speech on socio-cultural influence on women's language. On the other hand, it puts forward women's biological foundations for characteristics of speech. Besides, those findings through this analysis will be strengthened by a case study of women's speech by means of interviews with 30 female graduate students in China and discourse analysis of two extracts of those interviews. In general, this paper can be regarded as a starting point of research for women's characteristics with integrated methodologies, which might be a little significance to reform of studies of women's speech and inter-cultural communication.
