A Contrastive Study Of English SVOC Structure And Chinese Pivot Structure

English SVOC structure and Chinese pivot structure are the ordinary language structures in the English language and the Chinese language, which all represent the concept that is to make another person or thing perform some action or keep some state. The expression of such concept is based on the same cognition of the "human-centred theory". English SVOC structure and Chinese pivot structure can not only express the same concept, but show some similar aspects on the language structure which are reflected on the different components linear arrangement in the surface structure and logic relations among the different components and semantic expressions in the deep structure. The thesis is aimed to synchronically compare the grammatical structures and the logic semantic relationship between SVOC structure and pivot structure with the guidance of the general theory and method of the contrastive linguistics, the structuralism theory as the contrastive construction and other linguistic theory concerned.The former research on the contrastive study between English SVOC structure and Chinese pivot structure still remain a stage for exploring into the corresponding relations between the English-Chinese sentence components and have not touched on the reasons and laws of the similarities and differences between the two language structures. The thesis not only contributes to the study of the components corresponding relations further and analyze the reasons and laws of the similarities and differences caused between the two language structures further, but compare the two language structures at the sentence level. Through the research, the verb is found to be the key to form this kind of sentence structures. After the contrastive study of English and Chinese verbs which can form the structures, the verbs obey the same evolutional rules in both English SVOC structure and Chinese pivot structure withdifferent semantic degrees, which afford the proof to explain the similarities and differences between the two sentence structures. The thesis also make a comparison between the two sentence structures at the sentence level, and analyzes the corresponding relations briefly.The mam body of the thesis focuses on three parts: the first part states the contrastive basis according to the concept and the structure; the second part describes and analyzes the corresponding relations of the sentence components between SVOC structure and pivot structure; and the third part, according to the verb classification which can form SVOC structure and pivot structure, describes and analyzes the corresponding relations between SVOC structure and pivot structure at the sentence level.
