Research On The Development Of Contemporary Children Literature In Macau

After the formal signing of the Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration in the middle of 1980s, the future of Macau has become the concern of the people all over the world. Macau government has become to emphasize the importance of local culture at the same time. Local culture has developed rapidly during this period. Many literature writers and critics appeared during this period and they gave a vivid atmosphere to Macau culture. However, Children literature still remained undeveloped. The development of children literature in Macau is different from that in other regions. Lacking local writers and books is the disadvantage. Actually, children cultural activities are very popular in Macau because they are fully supported by Macau government. There are many inter-schools competitions and cultural activities in Macau every year. They became a special climate in Macau.Literature can purify people's spirit. It can also help children develop their language and aesthetic ability. Reading and memorizing literatures can help children increase their vocabulary and improve their speaking and writing ability. To lead their children to a better future, parents and teachers should provide the suitable environment and guide them to literature learning during their childhood.The cultural environment in Macau is special. It is influenced both by the Eastern as well as Western culture. It combined both the conservatism of Chinese culture and the openness of the Western culture. Under this special environment, the development of Macau children literature is worth the concern for all of us.There are four parts in the research: First, collect and analyze data about children literature and cultural activities in Macau and discuss the present development of the children literature. Second, carry out a survey about the reading habit of Macau children through questionnaire and analyze the result. Third, analyze all data and find out the characteristic of children literature in Macau. Finally, suggest ways of development of children literature in Macau.
