This thesis attempts to convey a study on the petty bourgeoisie images in 1949-1965's novels, aiming at revealing the great effect of the ideology integration on the creation of the authors by analyzing the writing background and the text, and by investigating the process of these changing images. The paper presents its view that the petty bourgeoisie's identity in the China after liberation has its duplicity: accepted by the new regime but as a ruled class. The individualism of petty bourgeoisie conflicts with the collectivism of the new era, which makes it the target of abandonment and criticism in the age when the country was undergoing the highly centralized construction and domination. With the gradual establishment of the norm, the petty bourgeoisie images were edged out during the period of 1949-1966. but even under the pressure from the nation, its conflict with the political ideals could still be seen in the text of bourgeoisie images.Through the analysis of the novelists' psychology of approving the authority ideology, the paper explores the political function of propaganda and education of petty bourgeoisie images. The writers, the principal part of the creation, have lost the free command of subjects and connotation, and formed a sharp contrast between the imagination of petty bourgeoisie images and the authority ideology. Therefore, these images became the symbol of political ideas and were doomed to lose there artistic vitality.
