The Study On Special Princes Of Tang Dynasty

The study on Special Princes is an important question in political history of ancient china. In the past dynasties, the emperor, as the supreme governor, often granted the rank of noble prince to some general officials to make them become Special Princes to maintain and consolidate the imperial power and protect the country besides he ranked the royal princes according to the blood relation. Basically speaking, the ranking of Special Princes is inimical to the politics of imperial power. So it was confined a short period in one dynasty and the emperor may take some ways such as eliminating the Special Princes to support and consolidate the rule of the emperor.There 's a little different of Tang dynasty from other dynasties. The granting of Special Princes existed from the beginning and the end of the Tang dynasty and it ever flooded in some period. Although the number of the granting of Special Princes was prominent, it was given less attention in the past study on Special Princes of Tang dynasty. At present, the special treatise on Special Princes of Tang dynasty is scarcely any except a few of discussions scattered in some thesis about official system, history of politics and history of nationality relations of Tang dynasty. The reason is, on the one hand, the granting system of Special Princes of Tang dynasty is different from others. The Special Princes had no corresponding land and a few of privilege in politics and economy except the title of prince as the reward of their achievement. On the other hand, more researchers studied the rebellions in later Tang dynasty from the eunuch's politics and local separate regime politics. The result is they ignore the fact that more headers of local separate regime were Special Princes at the same time. It makes the relation between the Special Princes and politics of Tang dynasty not very clear.In my opinion, the Special Princes as a special group bring important influence on Tang dynasty's politics. In some degree, it relates the change of political situation, eunuch's politics and local separate regime politics. So study on Special Princes of Tang dynasty help us to understand the process of development and changing of Tang dynasty's political history.At the base of collecting and analyzing of relative materials, the paper explains the problem about Special Princes of Tang dynasty in two aspects, that is part I and part II. the part I is the general discussion on Tang dynasty's Special Princes, involved the put forward of the thesis, the fixed meanings of the Special Princes, Special Princes' privilege ,reasons and aims of granting of V Princes. The part II is about the relation between Tang dynasty's Special Princes and Tang dynasty's politics. The relation is showed in three periods, the beginning of Tang dynasty, the regime changing period Li's and Wu's and later Tang dynasty. On the base of completely study, the paper gave the conclusion that the granting of Special Princes of Tang dynasty showed some laws such as phase characteristic and discontinuity. In the aspect of the relation between the granting of Special Princes and the development of the imperial power and n the changing of strong and feebleness each other of them, the former is a kind of way to maintain and consolidate the imperial power, it always services for the reigning of emperor and makes positive actions to the development of the Li's imperial power.
