This paper is a report of a computer-aided investigation into the articles in Marine Engineering English. With an overview of the grammar,especially of the long-term researches on the English article system,the paper relates the law of the articles,as the auxiliary marker of the noun,with its development,its basic functions and its characteristics in defining a noun in a way ranging from generalization,indefinite reference and semi-definite reference to definite reference. All above all,the basic and secondary as well as its syntactical functions get systematically set forth.
