The Urban Consumer Life in Italian RenaissanceSpecialty: World History Postgraduate: Zhu Li Supervisor: Sun Jin-quanMy aim in this dissertation is to provide an analysis of positive or negative factors between the urban consumer life and the social development in Italian Renaissance. It may help us to understand the economical characteristics and history proceeding in the period of Italian modernization.It consists of six parts. Part I is a preface, it summarizes the characteristics of the urban consumer life in Italian Renaissance, as well as illustrates the aim and the reason to choose such a topic. Part II describes the accumulation and concentration of wealthy, then, turn to the formation of the new consumption ideas, it is the precondition for the consumption. Part III looks at the consumer goods in daily life, such as costume, diet and housing which in a flow of luxury. Part IV concerns with cultural consumption including the buying and collecting of book and artwork, as well as religion and public activity consumption, the qualities of taste and refinement among them become more and more important. Part V focus in educational consumption and provides ideas and activities in detail. Part VI is the final conclusion, like a coin has two sides, the prosperity of rational consumption may flourish the partial economy and promote the social development. On the other hand, the excessive consumption puts innumerable capital into circulation, and hinders the capital accumulation of the industry, diminishes the whole development of the social economy.
