Jia Ding Mei Quan Ba Yin is a rhyme book reflecting East Min Dialect. The book was published in 1906 and edited by ZhongDcming, who came from GuTian and worked as a Chinese teacher in a mission school. The editor based it on Qi Lin Ba Yin, with the aim to improve Qi edition. So its content and character are worth observing. The thesis mainly summarizes the phonology of the rhyme book, and presents a general comparison and study of the history of its sound system, Through this we can know some special features of Fuzhou Dialect which belongs to East Min, and also find out some rules about phonetic development. The article will review the history and geographic distribution of East Min Dialect, and introduce some rhyme books available. Then the thesis revolves around historical comparison. To begin with the comparison between some rhyme books, then we will analyze the difference among Mei Quan Ba Yin, Old Chinese, Mid-ancient Chinese and Contemporary Dialect. The comparison depends on the Tools for Dialectology (TFD) invented by Mr PanWuyun, working in Shanghai Normal University. The purpose of writing the rhyme book was to make readers learn the word directly by the sound ,and know about the meaning shown in these words , that is to say ,to make them feel bright when they opened the book. For the most parts of the book, the editor achieved his goals. Despite some shortcomings the book still has its good side. The defects can not obscure the virtues. Therefore we should award the neglected rhyme book with a fair appraisal in the history of Fujian Linguistics.
