Modern Transformation Of Chinese Traditional Opera

Chinese traditional opera is the quientessence of traditional art standards. It has been the main choice of people's entertainment for a peniod of time. Since 1990s', traditional opera has been confronted with gmat crisis which mainly shows as the running-off the audience. Meanwhile, misical, an opera form contalneng drama and music and dancing performance, wins great success in many countries and becomes a symbol of western city cu'ture. This paper is focused on the comparison of traditional Chinese opera and musical in order to find out the difference of two and to favor the reform of traditional opera.The essay consists of three parts.I. The comparison of history of Chinese traditional opera and musical. Chinese local opera and musical is similar in their short history, fast development, folk-based aspect. However, as the result of agricultural civflization,traditionel opera must take reforn to meet the new aesthetic need of morden society and people.II. The comparison of their aesthetic standards. The main difference between their aesthetic standards focuses on the way to reflect life. Chi~ese traditional opera reflects the common life content by stylized movement to reach a symbolic effect. Stylizabion in traditional opera makes it hard to manifest real life. It is necessary to create a new stylization sysiem aimming at express today's life.III. The comparison of their art features. Though both traditional oper& and musical are comprehensive art consicting of drama music and dance, they are different in many aspects of art.
