| This veiy thesis consists of 6 parts and 2 chapters, namely, an investigation and analysis of Han Feis life passage on the one hand, and a classified study of the styles inHanfeizi (i.e. a Collection of Han FeEs Work) on the other hand. Chapter One (i.e. Part One) has laid too much emphasis on the elaboration of some questions of Han Fei, for instance, the era of his birth and death, his education experience as well as his political activities. It is investigated that Han Fei had once paid 2 missionary visits to Qin, a powerful kingdom at that time, specifically, the first was held in 237 B.C. and the second in 233 B.C. Therefore these activities not only account for some major questions occurring in his political activities, but also make clear some misunderstandings amid pilot researchers. Chapter Two (i.e. from Part Two to Part Six) has focused on the following 2 questions, namely, the definition of classification standards of the styles infl抋nfeizi and its detailed study. According to the record inBenzhuan and based on the comparison made between two versions of Hanfeizi (i.e.version ofDaozang, version in Qiandao), Part Two has defined standards for the stylistic classification, and 55 articles inHanfeizi have therefore been classified into 6 kinds of 8 styles, that is, address style, political and critic style (common political-critic-based essay and long specific essay), cross-questioning style,Nan style,Shuo style (i.e.Chushuo, Shuolin), and explanation style. Later in this Chapter (i.e. from Part Three to Part Six) are elaborated the properties of the later 4 styles and the significance of stylistics as well. It holds thatWan style is the one employed in Han Feis daily exercise of debate. It is but a collection of incoherent essays, and its unique stylistic form has a significant influence on debate style occurring in the following years.Chushuo is in fact a style where teaching or learning materials are made for internal exchanges in Han Fei School. Its stylistic significance is embodied in the heritage and creativity ofShizhuan and]i ngshuo style, at the same time; it is the origin ofLianzhu style.Shuolin is a kind of style where a collection of stories are composed and edited based on the original materials. It has great influence on novels, esp. those in form ofShishuo style. Explanation style, as its name suggests, is used to offer explanations or notes for some passages and sentences. Its influence is largely illustrated in aspects such as stylistic popularization and change. Breaking away from Jin, it has existed independently and become a particular style. |
