The Memory And Imagination Of The City Of Liuyunruo's Novels

Nowadays, the study of"cities in the literature"is quite fashionable, but Tianjin in the literature isn't so popular. The object of the paper is the memory and imagination of the city of Liu Yunruo's novels, so as it is, the memory and imagination of Tianjin of Liu Yunruo'novels. On the basis of searching lots of materials, I start from the text to interpret Tianjin of Liu Yunruo's novels in order to introduce the construction of city's culture identity, including studying of many kinds of urban spaces, of many kinds of images of the citizens and especially the characteristic images from the marketplace of Tianjin, of circumstances of city lives, ets. I tried to get Liu Yunruo's construction of Tianjin's culture identity of"the city and its'human beings", in the 1930s and 1940s, besides I tried to interpret the reasons why Liu Yunruo and the earlier writers of Tianjin hadn't clearly constructed Tianjin's culture identity of"the city and its'human beings".The paper is composed of three parts. The introduction mainly introduces research subject and the line of the paper. The first chapter refers to the memory of urban spaces and citizens. The second chapter refers to the city circumstances of Liu Yunruo's novels. According to the results of former chapters, we entered into the question of the culture identity of"the city and its'human beings", showing the difference of Liu Yunruo's ideal Tianjin and real Tianjin, showing achievements of Liu Yunruo's construction of the culture identity of"the city and its'human beings". The conclusion is, by means of imaginary community—"small Yangzhou"and the two presences—native soil Beijing (Beiping) and westernized Shanghai, Liu Yunruo found the vague city culture identity for Tianjin. Though he hadn't made completely success, he recorded more than twenty years'Tianjin, saved politics, customs, anecdotes for Tianjin in the literature, he had made achievements.
