Black Advocating Complex In Chinese Traditional Cultures And The Application Of Its Emotional Characteristics In Modern Design

Among all the colors, black is the most widely used, the exploration on black has never stopped and its aesthetic and application value have always been attached importance to and studied by aesthetic researchers. In China, black is closely related to people's life and fields of black research and application range from rock drawing, colored pottery painting and writing with black in ancient times to painting and clothing in modern times. With the development of civilization, people's cognition of black has changed multi-faceted and a special aesthetic emotion has appeared. In designing field, application of black is becoming mature. In perfect combination of black with design works and the special relationship between the works and audience, the most important is how emotional meaning of black, as a special color, can be conveyed to audience by the combination with works.The paper, based on the typical Chinese culture and thoughts system, examined the application of black in ink painting, black pottery, clothes and lacquer-wares from the perspectives of history and typical cases of black application. Then, the paper studied some successful cases of black application in modern design field. The paper consists of five parts. The first part introduces topic, aims, significance and present situation of the research. In the second part, emotional characteristics and functions of colors are analyzed, especially the effects of black. The third part traces the history of black application in Chinese traditional art. The fourth part is the analysis of black application in modern design field. In the fifth part, some principles of black application in design are explored.
