The Reflection About The Contemporary Destiny And The Value Of Marxian Historical Determinism

Marxian historical determinism, one of the philosophy theories, argues that our history is developed in an objective and regular pattern. It is the core of Marxian materialist conception of history and also one of the main argument foundations for building socialism with Chinese characteristics. Due to the past and practical problems, the existing textbooks and theoretical system for Marxian do not thoroughly and completely show the essential feature and profound meaning of Marxian historical determinism. Thus, those problems make it easier for the non-determinists to attack and criticize Marxian historical determinism. Therefore, more explanations for Marxian historical determinism are needed, from two aspects: theoretical and practical, to fight back the western non-determinists to realize the transformation of Marxian historical determinism from history to contemporary. Under the new circumstances, to further developing the theory, fight against the criticisms and censures the theory faced from the western scholars and comprehend the meaning of adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions and developing the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, it is of great theoretical and realistic significance to understand exactly the theoretical origins, features and contemporary values of the theory.On the concrete study, this paper firstly summarizes the present status of the Marxian historical determinism at home and abroad, makes clear the theoretical start of the research and points out the purpose and meanings on its study. The second part reviews the historical form and systematic formulation of the theory and draws up the conclusion that the essence of the theory is practical, dialectic and historical. Through analyzing the concept of non-historical determinism, the third part points out that not only new problems emerging from the development of our modern natural science should be analyzed and summarized, but also the trend of rationalism in the traditional western historical philosophy should be cleared and also more priority should be given to the capitalist social life analyzed by Karl Marx. The final part indicates that the theory's contemporary values can be determined by world view, epistemology and practice. On the world view level, it provides a world map of human history especially the development of capitalism. From the mode of thinking on the epistemological level, it is a reasonable mode of thinking beyond understandings from historical point of view. On the practical level, the theory is conducive to get a clear understanding of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the needs of adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions. The theory also makes it possible to confirm that China adopts an inevitable and reasonable road of socialism from the development of historical subjectivity. All these show that the paper pays close attention to our modern social development and issues and has realized sublimation of theory in our time. As a result, it has effectively defended Marxian historical determinism on the new level.
