A Study On The Development Of Realism Oil Painting In Xinjiang

Since western culture was introduced abundantly into China in early 20 century, realism occupied a leading status in developing history of Chinese culture; at the same time, realistic canvas also play an important role in the history of Chinese contemporary arts. Realistic canvas is not only a school or a mode, but also a way for artists to cognize, experience and expresses the world. It develops with the society, steps forward with the times. Xinjiang is in the west frontier of China, and has unique human sight and rich culture sources, which build strong bases for the development of realistic canvas in Xinjiang. In addition, the convergence of eastern and western cultures and the unique geographic human feature make the canvas in Xinjiang, which followed the realism, show new characteristics in form, color, painting techniques, and aesthetic direction.Experienced half century's development, Xinjiang realistic canvas presents different features in different times. Based on this, the author aims to parse the developing venation of Xinjiang contemporary canvas and present the future trend of Xinjiang contemporary canvas, combining with the analysis of concrete artists and works. The paper starts with the background of Chinese realistic canvas, catching hold of the arts itself to find out the developing characteristic of Xinjiang realistic canvas, so as to better understand this process and the reason for its coming-into-being. The author reviewed and studied Xinjiang canvas in 20 century, presented the appearing, forming and developing of Xinjiang canvas. The author elaborated from four aspects: 1) The developing process and survey of Xinjiang realistic canvas, including three stages: before and after liberation, the period of cultural revolution, reforming and opening up to now. 2) The forming reason for Xinjiang realistic canvas: the influence of natural geography and local culture, and the influence of Soviet Russia arts and literature policy in our country. 3) Main features of Xinjiang realistic canvas: theme, aesthetics of romanticism, and arts techniques. 4) The new developing trend of Xinjiang realistic canvas in 21 century. Previous literature show that works on the research of realism painting is still few. Based on the already existed literature, this paper analyzes the reason for the form of realism oil painting and its developmental process. Predictions on the future development of realism oil painting are also made in this paper.
