In this thesis, the author has selected from China, a country with a vast territory and complex topography, three regions and their relevant painting styles, and made a profound analysis from three aspects, including the relationship of their different regional culture, regional features of the artistic styles of flower-and–bird painting, and the influence of locality on these painting styles. This thesis will mainly deal with the three typical regions, namely, Chang'an of Shanxi, Shanghai, and regions south of the Five Ridges, from the three painting schools and their respective artists with their painting, analyzing and making comparison and contrast of their different features, geographic, humanistic and aesthetic, and the different artistic styles of flower-and–bird painting, and also the influence of locality upon the aesthetic orientation, techniques of drawing and the choices of painting materials. The author has proposed in this thesis that the artists of flower-and–bird painting should go back to localization while painting, think highly of the role played by the local traditional culture, local customs and practices as base, materials and background of painting. Meanwhile, they should also absorb and blend the non-local cultural and aesthetic elements, seeking what is new in order to work out paintings with local distinctive features. There are different topographic features, natural ecology and climates in different regions, which in turn produce different regional cultures and life habits of people living in some specific regions, and then lead to the different aesthetic trends, further playing an important role in the artists'drawing. As a local artist, he himself is also one of the masses, the regional elements in his real life will definitely go with him all the time, and link up the whole process of his thoughts, feelings and painting. In addition, the public aesthetic orientation can also imperceptibly influence the artistic construction and expression. In other words, regional culture and public aesthetic orientation have the same indispensable and influential effects on the artistic working of flower-and–bird painting.Nowadays, in the 21st century, technology and information is developing rapidly, which requires every artist that they must pay much attention to impart and inherit the excellent local cultures and to the public aesthetic taste, with which they may learn to be positively good at absorbing the non-local gifts and mix them together with the traditional ones, exploring without stop in their lifetime. What's more, they should also adapt themselves to the changing, colorful modern world and work harder to produce more paintings with local distinguishing characteristics in order to satisfy the public aesthetic orientation and increasing mental needs.
