Study On Dragon Pattern Evolution And Its Application In Modern Fashion Design

Dragon pattern, as a traditional decorative pattern of China, has a wide range of applications and contains rich cultural connotations in the traditional clothing and other areas. Nowadays, though the nice implication of dragon pattern still remains in people's memory, dragon pattern in modern fashion design is rare to see. Therefore, the research and application of attire dragon pattern in modern fashion design is particularly necessary.From the point of clothing, this research includes four parts: the historical evolution and modeling characteristics of dragon pattern, the aesthetic analysis and cultural connotations of dragon pattern, dragon pattern analysis of application status and its usages in modern fashion design .This paper emphases on the first two parts which offered a theoretical foundation to modern fashion design. In addition, dragon pattern analysis of application status creates the precondition for application in modern fashion design.In view of this, the paper first takes the way of combining literature research and practice, collecting relevant information and documents from the libraries and some database, visiting the museum to get first-hand abundant pictures, and classifying them by each other graphic card. According to historical development, I summarized dragon patterns into four phases: one-legged dragon, wings dragon, snake's body dragon and new dragon. Meantime, I tried to analyze the modeling characteristics in each phase and further its aesthetic shape analysis. Grasp on the basis of its shape to explore the cultural connotations behind the dragon pattern and point out that dragon pattern are symbols of"witchcraft","power","blessing"and"nation"in different periods. Again, on the base of the definition and characteristics of modern fashion design, I analyzed application status from the application of both the value and application prospect and came to the conclusion that dragon pattern in the modern fashion design is feasible. Finally, under the guidance of the principles and contents in modern fashion design, I tried to achieve the purpose of practice from the concrete and abstract.
