Louis Chu is a famous Chinese American writer. His masterpiece Eat a Bowl of Tea, also his only work has been regarded as the first book that fully describes the bachelor life of Chinatown in New York. Meanwell, feminism has drawn more and more attention in the literary criticism.Therefore, this thesis attempts to make a feminist study of Eat a Bowl of Tea, with the focus on the self-awareness of a female character, MeiOi, which will play a very important role in the understanding of the book. It includes six chapters. Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to the feminism and the self-awareness as well as the writer and his book. Chapter 2 analyses the theme of MeiOi's self-awareness through comparison with the other female characters in the book. While Chapter 3, 4 and 5 focus on the limitation, reasons and the significance of female self-awareness respectively. In the light of the above analysis, the author has come to the conclusion of this study in Chapter 6, that is, through revealing MeiOi's awakening, the paper shows its positive attitude toward the new women.This paper shows its significance mainly on the following aspects: Enriching the feminism theology through the study of MeiOi's awakening progress; Offering a new scope for the study of the Chinesee-American writers and their literature by placing the work in feminism setting; Together with the cross-culture factor, the paper also tries to find some methods to the humanbeing's development in an interculture backgroud.
