Chinese classics have become one of the heated objects for researches with the globalization. This thesis is aimed to make a systematic study on the transference of artistic conception in Zhuangzi under the guidance of the translation aesthetics. The aesthetics has a special meaning to the theory of translation in China. The combination of translation and aesthetics is a significant feature in Chinese translation theory. Translation aesthetics proposes the basic properties of the aesthetic object and the aesthetic subject. On this basis, the types and methods of aesthetic representation in translation have been provided, which proposes guidance for translation practice. As an outstanding text of Taoist philosophy, Zhuangzi is well-known to most Chinese readers for its beautiful language style and profound meanings. Among the whole text, the artistic conception is the significant soul, which has a profound impact and creates an inspiration on the problem of the outlook on life by means of describing to the objective things. Moreover, it is also the main factor for the readers to understand during their readings. It is acknowledged that the artistic conception is quite vital and cannot be ignored in literary translation. The complexity of the artistic conception increases the difficulty in its accurate translation. Artistic conception is an important category in Chinese aesthetic research, and it is a significant factor that the domain of translation tries to convey to foreign readers. It is the comprehensiveness between the art image and imagination that image creates. The transference of artistic conception depends not only on the transmission of micro-formal beauty, but also on the transmission of macro non-formal factors like emotion, images and image beyond image. From the perspective of the Chinese translation aesthetics, this thesis is intended to make the analysis of Zhuangzi and its translation from macroscopic and microcosmic aspects, as well as to do the research on transference of artistic conception in Zhuangzi's translation.
