The Comparative Study On The Chinese And French Loanwords In Vietnamese

The research is generally concentrated in Chinese loanwords when the Vietnamese foreign words are studied. Some people have studied them from pronunciation, vocabulary, word meaning, and grammar and so on. However, there are very few people to contrast Chinese and French loanwords research. This paper attempts to research from the contrast, and hopes to discover the influence of linguistic type to the occurrence of loanword, the way of loading etc. This paper discusses the question from four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. The second chapter is to discuss how French and Chinese loanwords are borrowed in Vietnamese. The third chapter is to discuss how the linguistic type to affect the loading of the Chinese provenience vocabulary came in the Vietnamese language. This chapter described the details about the Chinese and French provenience vocabularies came in the Vietnamese language from the introduction of the pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. The last chapter is to compare the Chinese loanwords with French loanwords, and contrast their same spots and the diversities, and summarized some rules as follows.First. We discovered that the linguistic type truly affected Chinese and French loanwords entering Vietnamese in many aspects. For example, the way of pronunciation, when they came in Vietnamese, is different. Chinese loanwords have strong ability to help Vietnamese to create the new words, but French have little element working like a word root to help creating new Vietnamese words. Second. Chinese language and French language have different contact with Vietnamese, Chinese has contacted with Vietnamese since two thousand years ago, and has stronger affected Vietnamese than French. French can not hold a candle on this spot.Third. Vietnam is next to China, two countries have contacted like immigration, intermarry. France and Vietnam do not have the geography contact, also little immigration and intermarry. So, the language contact's depth is definitely dissimilar.Forth. We thought that Vietnamese has already relied on Chinese vocabulary when they need to create a new word because of the deep contact each other. It is understandable when we see the influence on the tone and morphology of Vietnamese.
