Eileen Chang's works originates in Old Shanghai in the 1940s, in which her representative work was born. Eileen Chang, who has passed 75 years, was outstanding in the 20th century's literary world. In The History of Chinese Modern Novels in 1961 by Xia Zhiqing, he has a"new discovery"in Eileen Chang's works, which is significant and splendid in the history of Chinese modern novels and rewrites it partly. It is quite peculiar in the literary field that she has a particular apperception on humanities and wars and her own legend life filled with hard times, which makes some scholars start to focus on or research the necessity of rewriting the literary history. Since then, her novels have been produced into films and TV series. Her posthumous work Small Reunion can always attract lots of people's attention and start a trend of favor. From this, Eileen Chang still has great influence on modern literary field.Although she has passed away years ago, Eileen Chang's works and life still are the topics of modern people. Her brilliancy in the early years and solitary life arouse many scholars'interests, researches and discussions. She starts to be famous in the 1940s and Xun Yu, Hu Lancheng, Su Qing and Zhou Shoujuan have all written comments on her articles.There are four parts in this article. The first part explains the historical stages of modern acceptance of"Eileen Chang phenomenon". It contains the reasons of she being in favor in the 1940s, her writings'disappearance in the 1950s, her dreariness in the 1960s, her arousing sensation in Taiwan in the 1970s and her regress in the main land winning numerous attention since the 1980s. The second part illustrates the origin of"Eileen Chang phenomenon"and the reasons of people's accepting this or not, which includes the influence of old Shanghai in the 1940s on"Eileen Chang phenomenon", the ups and downs of its acceptance and searching for her posthumous works in the immigration of America. The third part is the explanation of several categories of modern acceptance of"Eileen Chang phenomenon". This part includes the pursuit of her novels of the whole China, her writing successors represented by Zhu Tianwen, Wang Anyi, Zhong Xiaoyang and so on, and the reasons of the films and TV series of Love in a Fallen City, Lust & Caution, Eighteen Springs and so on getting hot. The fourth part is the probe into Small Reunion, her novel which is complicated and confusing. And in this novel there are many parts worthy considering, which are necessary in researching"Eileen Chang phenomenon".
