Roald Dahl, the famous British writer, is not only endowed with high reputation in the area of detective fiction, but also regarded as a man of milestone in children's literature. It is reasonable to say that Roald Dahl has created an important aesthetic quality in children's literature with his unique writing style. Based on the current researches, this thesis is mainly employed to analyze some of Dahl's fantastic stories with the author's ability, striving to grasp the essence of Roald Dahl's fantastic world.The first part of this thesis is literature review, which is a brief introduction of Roald Dahl's life, his major works, as well as domestic and foreign research status of his works.In the second chapter, the author is intended to make a clear definition of the characteristics of Roald Dahl's fantasy works. At the same time, the author goes to make an interpretation of the important concept"Second World", which is critical to the understanding of Roald Dahl's fantasy works.Based on the previous chapter, Chapter Three analyzes Dahl's fantasy world created in his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches and Matilda, the BFG, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc. By analyzing their artistic characteristics, the author strives to manifest the literary charm of Dahl's works.Chapter Four aims at discussing the relation between Dahl's fantastic world and the real world. Containing a considerable amount of description on violence, revenge, greed and cruelty, Dahl's fantasy stories arouse widespread controversy. Besides the discussion of the controversies, this paper puts emphasis on the positive factors and the reasons why Dahl's works are wildly welcomed by the children. In addition, the author discusses the adult authority especially the subversion and remodeling of adult image, and the implicit theme of love in Dahl's fantastic stories.Chapter Five is the conclusion. In this part, the author shows her positive attitude to Roald Dahl's fantasy stories for children.Roald Dahl is a landmark figure in children's literature. It is of much significance to analyze Roald Dahl's fantasitic works and is worthwhile to put more efforts on it.
