Based on Guilford's theory on divergent thinking, the study focuses on the measurement of divergent thinking. The thesis is aimed to study whether divergent thinking is operable in music education, and the performance level of the characteristics of divergent thinking level in music.Through a review of relevant studies, the author found that most studies on divergent thinking were based on creativity, and aimed at education and training. Following on Guilford's theory, the study of the thesis is carried with a goal of cultivating of creativity. The study is concerned with the divergent thinking in music; the emphases are put on the investigation, analysis, observation and experiments on the music performance of divergent thinking. Localized on the dimensions of semantic content, symbols content and behavior content, these three characteristics of divergent thinking, namely fluency, flexibility and uniqueness, were judged, measured and summarized.Conclusions are drawn that divergent thinking is operable in music education; different styles of music on thinking divergent ability has the different effects on divergent thinking; In different dimension, characteristics of divergent thinking has different performance:fluency>flexibility> uniqueness;the divergent thinking of the subjects could be influenced by environmental factors.
