Academic Study Of Emotion's Structure And Function

This article mainly discuss the structure and functions of emotion theoretically. With regard to emotion's structure, at present there are mainly two kinds of assessment standards:basic emotion theory and dimension theory. However, difficult of basic emotion categorization turn the attention of researchers to the dimensions structure, A famous theory of the dimension famous dimension theory mainly including three-dimensional theory, Wundt, Schloberg and plutchik are the representatives; Izard's four-dimensional theory, Russell's circular theory, and so on. Nevertheless, growing research suggests that there are two major dimensions structure of emotion. On the basis of two-dimensional structure, emotion psychologists divide emotion into two dimensions:valency and arousing, or positive and negative. According to the purposes of research, we choose the latter.Traditionaly, regardless of emotion psychologists, or ordinary people, they all pay more attention to negative emotions, and work out various methods to avoid and eliminate them, but they do not take care enough of positive emotions. With the rising of positive psychology, the researchers pay more attention to the positive emotions with their research. Study suggested that negative emotions have positive functions, and positive emotions also have negative functions.Then, we respectively select two positive emotions of pride and gratitude, and two negative emotions of fear and anger, discussing the positive and their functions from two aspects.This subject uses documentary research, qualitative research, logical reasoning, and descriptive research method, systematically tease the literature on structure and functions of emotion, It aims at enriching and developing documentation of emotional structure, makes people understand and evaluate their emotional state better, and make it for his/her service.Specifically, the article consists of five parts. The first is an introduction, overviews the reason and purposes of the topic; The second is about thoughts, methods and innovations of the study; The third mainly discussed the connotation, structure and functions of emotion; The forth is about structure and functions of particular emotion, based on two dimensions-"positive"and "negative" of emotion, the article respectively choose two positive emotion such as pride and gratitude, three negative emotion, anger, fear and jealousy, for instance, then elaborated on their double functions, every kind of emotion to be one chapter; The last part is a conclusion, reflected the deficiencies of the article and proposed suggestions for future research.The main innovation in the paper is that by means of studing functions of emotion from positive and negative aspects, this paper create a new way for emotion function's study, at the same time, further deepen the functionalism theory of emotion. but it also exist insufficient, for example, owing to limited time, the emotion's species we select is little; in addition, comments on emotional dimensions theory needs to be deepened.
