Language proficiency test is a guideline for both second language learners and teachers. The variety of Chinese proficiency test develops along with the spreading of Chinese language. Among all these Chinese tests, HSK(hanyu shuiping kaoshi)has been developed greatly as a professional language test for the test-takers. Japan has a massive and stable number of Chinese learners, As the most important Chinese proficiency test in Japan, CPT(Chinese Proficiency Test)has its own special features. The two tests have many differences in some aspects. For the first time, this paper aims to compare the structure and testing system between HSK and TCP. Through the comparison and analysis, it is hoped that we can provide some suggestions to improve or complement the two tests to be more suited to its purpose. We also hope to make some contribution to the development of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and Chinese proficiency test.
