Study On The Adverbs Of Degree In Xi You Ji

XiYouJi is a Chinese classical god evil spirit novel which was written on about the middle of the Ming dynasty in the 16th century.Its colloquial degree is high, basically reflecting the oral language and the practical language in the middle of the Ming dynasty.Moreover its length is so long with rich language materials that it becomes an important literature for the study of modern Chinese. Therefore, the study on the grammar of this novel has an important academic significance.This thesis chooses adverbs of degree which appear in XiYouJi as the object of study, in which it identifies 54 adverbs of degree and according as whether the adverbs have explicit comparison objects and forms of word-building, it divides the 54 adverbs of degree into 2 major types:absolute adverbs of degree and relative adverbs of degree. And then according to the differences of the degree of quantity, it divides them respectively into four quantity classes, totally 8 categories. According to the word-building type, we divide the 54 adverbs of degree into single morpheme words and compound words. The compound words can be divided into three types, that is, combined type, additional type and overlapped type. The additional type can be divided into five types:associative form, subject-predicate form, predicate-object form, infrequently-used form, and supplement form. The overlapped type can be divided into front add form and behind add form. The article calculates, describes and analyses the usage of each adverb of degree roundly, concretely. The angles of study on each adverb mainly contain the function of sentence structure, the characteristic of combination with syllable, the applicability of sentence type, and the usage of combination of two adverbs of degree.This thesis adopts the methods which are the combination of quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis, static description, and statistics with the list, illuminating the 54 adverbs of degree. It sketches the system of adverbs of degree in XiYouJi and the basic character of each adverb of degree on usage and distribution.
