Zhuangzi, a chief representative of the Taoist scholars before the Qin dynasty, is a great thinker, philosopher and writer in ancient China. He has demonstrated his unique understanding and mastery of language, with elegant words flowing from his pen and forming flexible and natural styles of his works. He has played a major role in both Chinese Thought History and Literature History. Heidegger, a German master of existentialism, is one of the philosophers who have the most profound influences on the western philosophy and linguistics of the twentieth century. His deep thoughts into the essence of language are the most significant component of his philosophical ideas. There are amazing tacit agreements between these two masters who both possess distinct characters, acute discretion and poetic temperament. Particularly, their views on language are highly identical, pursuing poetic language through critics against logic language and deeming language is correspondence between nature and man rather than simple expressions.Based on the facts, this paper performs a contrastive analysis in the works and ideas of Zhuangzi and Heidegger. Meanwhile, with the dynamic historical attitudes, the author conducts study on the poetic languages of Zhuangzi and Heidegger to analyze the identity of their poetic language views and explore the reason for such identity. penetrating into the great depth of their thoughts. Hence the conclusion is drawn that the above mentioned identity is reflected mainly in three aspects, namely, cognition of the origin of the world and language, the path and method to reach that origin, and the style of using poetic language. Furthermore, the reason for the radical identity that has crossed time and space lies in the tactual and theoretical links between Zhuangzi and Heidegger. To make it more specific, these two have similar living circumstances, life experiences and modes of thinking, with the significant influences of Taoism and Zhuangzi on Heidegger. The contrastive analysis in the views on language of Zhuangzi and Heidegger, who are the best representatives of Chinese and Western views of poetic language, is of great significance. Based on the discussion on the essence of language and on the original study and understanding of the author, this paper intends to clearly illustrate the obscure ideas with concise words.
